hello bloggers and Ms.shabana, since everyone is summarizing the story i thought of doing something different therefore i will write questions and answers about each chapter.Hopefully this way will motivate us to think and recall events in the story. (note:Ms.shabana please tell me if this is a good way or not:D)
CHAPTER 4
Q: How do Hilda and her daughter feel about their stay in Gertie's house?
A: at the beginning of the chapter Kitty tells us how settled and accustomed hilda and ellen are about their stay in gertie's house
Q:Did their stay have any effect on hilda and ellen? if so what was it?
A:yes it had an effect on ellen specially because she broke out of her isolation and became a girl who enjoys the nature and the domestic life.Not only Ellen was affected but also Hilda, since she rejects isolation she felt happy and relieved for her daughter.
Q: What can you tell from the story about Hilda's husband?
A: Hilda's husband Doug is away from his family because he works in the navy and will stay there during the war. From the story you can tell that Hilda irrepressibly loves him and despondently misses him.
Q:What was the surprise hilda and ellen recieved at the end of the chapter?and was it a delightful one or not?
A: At the end of this chapter hilda and ellen are surprised by the early arrival of doug, because as hilda was bewailing for her husband being away from them he suddenly appeared.It was a delightful surprise for hilda and her daughter but not for Gertie.
CHAPTER 5 :
Q:Why wasn't Gertie elated by the arrival of doug?
A: because At the beginning of this chapter we disclose Gertie's secret love toward hilda.as she says that she sometimes feels like kissing her but doesn't because she knows that Hilda will feel disgusted
Q:During doug's stay how did Hilda, ellen, and gertie feel ?
A: Hild and ellan were more than happy, they were placated by his presence. On the other hand Gertie was exasperated by Doug due to the covetousness she had from him .
Q: Why was Gertie jealous from doug?
A: Gertie felt jealous from doug because hilda spent all the time with him until his departure, which made her feel ignored and flouted by hilda. Her jealosy grew even more everytime she saw doug kissing hilda.
Q: How did hilda, ellen, and gertie feel when doug left?
A: Hilda and ellen were devastated by his departure. whereas gertie was satisfied and contented by his departure because now she has hilda and ellen all for her agian.
Q: Why does Ellen recieve a pet kitten?
A: ellen recieves a pet kitten in exchange to the piglets Gertie gave away for butchering
CHAPTER 6:
Q: What happens after two years from doug's departure?
A: Ellen's 12th birthday arrives as well as her pubirty, she celebrates it with gertie and hilda. Ellen recives many gifts from her mom and gertie.During the celebration, Ellen hankers for her dad's presence during her birthday.
Q: What happens as Hilda enters the kitchen to bring her daughter's birthday cake?
A:Something strange and freaky happens to her , as she enters the kitchen she feel that someone is standing beside her but when she turns around she doesn't find anyone. When hilda tells gertie about what happened to her, gertie explains to hilda that her mind is playing tricks with her.(I honestly think that it was gertie who stood behind her, what about you what do you think?)
CHAPTER 7:
Q: What is gertie's reaction when hilda tells her about the incident that happened in ellen's birthday?

Q:What important event occurred in this chapter? And what effect did it have on Gertie, hilda, and ellen?
A:The sudden appearance of doug was the main event that happened in this chapter, which riled and maddened gertie because he was satying for 3 weeks , but pleased ellen and hilda.
Q: During doug's stay what does he realize?
A: During his stay, doug realizes that gertie has some feelings toward hilda therefore he keeps an eye on gertie to make sure that he is right.
Q: Was doug the only one suspicious about gertie's feelings toward hilda or not?
A: no because Hilda started to remember the times where she quivered with gertie but she denies all the allegations and retaliations Doug tells her.Why? because she didnt want to ruin the time they lived together
CHAPTER 8:
Q:What happens the next morning?
A: Doug grounds a situation during breakfast where he explains that Gertie has feelings toward Hilda and not sisterly ones.
Q: Was hilda bothered by the insults doug offends gertie with?
A: Hilda was not only bothered but also scandalized by the words her husband used to offend gertie.
Q: As doug apologized to both hilda and gertie, do you think that he meant it and really regretted offending gerie or not?
A: MY OPINION: no i don't think that he meant it , but he just apologized because he didn't want to make Hilda feel mad before he leaves .
CHAPTER 9:
Q: what do you predict happened after doug's departure?

CHAPTER 10:
Q:what happens when ellen wakes up with a high fever?
A: When ellen wakes up with a high fever Hilda takes over the work of ten people put together to accomplish what needs to be done around the cottage, and taking care of both Gertie and Ellen, since ellen passed the fever to gertie.
Q:Did the work affect hilda?
A: After working hard around the cottage, Hilda is worn out and sick as the infection passes on to her. After the recovery of gertie and ellen, Hilda gets a chest infection.
Q:How did the villagers' reaction toward Hilda's health surprise gertie?
A:Being isolated from the people in the village for a long time , gertie didnt expect the help of the two people she was mostly trying to avoid. The people in the village became very concerned about hilda's health that they approached gertie to follow hilda's recovery.As the help was provided to her by the vilagers, gertie realized that the walls she craeted to isolate herself from the people of the village was up for too long.
